November Newsletter

Medals for Kingsdale.

We are very happy with our successes at the 2010 sping wineshows. Bronze medals were awarded to three of our new wines.

2010 Sauvignon Blanc
NSW Small Winemakers Show.
2010 Chardonnay
NSW Cool Climate Wine Show, and
Australian Small Winemakers Show
2008 Emma Shiraz
Australian Cool Climate Wine Show.

In the Vineyard

budburst4.jpgSpring has been cool, with average rainfall, and so far the grapes are thriving. We have had only one frost of about -2C since budburst, and that was on the Chardonnay grapes. These go into bud about ten days before our other grapes. The new overhead sprinkler irrigation system worked, and there was no frost damage.

The rain and warmer weather does mean that we have to be vigilant for disease. Powdery and Downey mildew as well as Botrytis are the current worries for the vines.

In the Winery

Since the last newsletter, we have been busy labelling our  new 2010 wines. It is a slow operation, with a hand labelling machine, one bottle at a time, but the task is now finished.

NEW RELEASES

2010 Chardonnay
The 2010 Chardonnay is a lightly oaked style. It is soft and smooth in the mouth, with a fresh finish on the palate. It has aromas of peach, vanilla and honeysuckle.

2010 Sweet Madeleine
By popular demand we have made a sweeter style of white. A blend of all of our white grapes with a tropical fruit nose, Enjoy it before dinner and try it as an accompaniment to Thai and Indian dishes

Wine of the Month

2008 Rosé

A vibrant fuchsia colour, this wine was made from early picked Shiraz grapes. It was briefly left on the skins and cool fermented.  It has a pronounced nose of cranberries and strawberries. The wine is fruity, but it is not sweet.

We suggest you serve it chilled with the turkey at the Christmas Dinner. The cranberry flavours are a good match with the turkey, and the colour of the wine will make a festive addition to the table.

It was awarded Bronze medals at the 2008 National Cool Climate Wines Show, and the 2008 Australian Small Winemakers
