The Vineyard
Our vineyard is established on deep red soils developed over iron rich sediments and limestone. Our unique combination of climate and soils allows the development of pronounced fruit characters in the wines we produce.
We have 7 acres of grapes, planted to Shiraz, Merlot, a little Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Semillon, producing on average about 15000 bottles of wine.
The vineyard was established in 2001/2002, the Shiraz being planted in 2001 and the whites and Merlot in 2002. Our first commercial harvest was in 2005.
Our grapes are hand picked, to ensure minimum oxidation on picking and maximum grape juice quality.

Frost Protection
The greatest threat to our grapes comes from unseasonal frosts in late October and November, when the frost will damage the young buds, leaves and flowers. Although the grapes can handle 0 deg C, at less than about -0.5 deg C, frost damage will occur. We have installed an overhead sprinkler frost protection system over most of the vineyard, and we use a wind generating machine over the remainder.
Bird Netting
Another threat to the grapes is birds. In particular we have problems with
crows and starlings. The best way to keep them from eating the grapes is
a netting system that completely encloses the vineyard.
